Electrical Power Sources

Earth Science gives guidance for man’s decisions about what to use as sources for electrical power. There are important issues related to the real cost of power. We use firewood to keep us warm and this seems to be renewable, but there are environmental costs because we add greenhouse gases to the atmosphere when we burn wood. So we consider the monetary cost, environmental cost and sustainability in choosing power sources. The monetary cost of oil, gas and coal have risen because they are very convenient to use for power.  The public questions increased coal power facilities.  Now the environmental costs of fossil fuel are being evaluated and could get charged, which would add to the cost. There is a probability that fossil fuels could become scarcer as supplies dwindle in the future.  The demand for power is increasing rapidly as populations rise and development expands across the world. So the world may shift from this convenient power source to other, more sustainable ones.  Some that are mentioned now are: 1. Solar power  2. Wind Power 3. Geothermal Power  4. Hydro power and 5. Nuclear Power.
