Volcanoes in eruption, 1995[ Full page view | Main Index | Home Page ]
Annual review of volcanic eruptions: 1995
from numerous sources, mainly the GVN Bulletin
In 1995, more than 50 volcanoes were reported in eruption. Many of these eruptions were small, phreatomagmatic ash emissions, but some eruptions were more significant events, such as the September-October eruptions of Ruapehu, New Zealand, the explosive-effusive eruption of Fogo, Cape Verde Islands (the first Central-South Atlantic eruption since 1971) in April-May and the late November-early December eruption from Cerro Negro, Nicaragua. No large eruptions (such as the 1994 Rabaul eruption or the much larger 1991 Pinatubo eruption) occurred in 1995. The number of eruptions (at least 57) is equal to the total of 1994 (57), after the publication of a late November 1995 eruption report concerning Chile's Irruputuncu volcano in the January 1997 GVN Bulletin.
The volcanoes are arranged geographically according to Volcanoes of the World (1994 edition).
