The compilation of Global volcanic activity in 1995 has been completed: at least 56 volcanoes have been active in the last year, compared to 57 in 1994.
Information about Ulawun Decade Volcano has been added.
Scanned a photo of the 1872 eruption of Vesuvio.
Initial work has been done on a full list of known eruptions from Vesuvio (today, up to the mid 18th century is available).

Tuesday 19 March 1996

Completed the page about Geophysical Monitoring of Vesuvio, a contribution submitted by Francesca Bianco of the Osservatorio Vesuviano. All figures are now available.
Figure captions have been added to the two maps to the Aeolian Islands page, supplied by Natale Calanchi of Bologna University.
Added a new section about Ulawun Decade Volcano since there is no info about this volcano on the WWW so far.
Added an image of the 1991 eruption of Avachinsky volcano, Kamchatka

Added a page on the Geophysical Monitoring of Vesuvio, a contribution submitted by Francesca Bianco of the Osservatorio Vesuviano. Note that not all figures are yet available (they will be within the next one or two days).
Added two maps to the Aeolian Islands page; the maps were supplied by Natale Calanchi of Bologna University.

A mirror has been set up for the Komagatake photos of Tatsuro Chiba of Asia Air Survey.
Additionally, images of the 1929 eruption of Komagatake volcano (Japan) and of the 1945 eruption of Avachinsky volcano, Russia, have been made available.
Added a brief description of the Geological setting of the Aeolian Islands, supplied by Natale Calanchi from the University of Bologna.

Written a summary of the 3750 BP "Avellino" eruption of Vesuvio and continued writing about volcanic hazards of Vesuvio.

Put up an overview map of Vesuvio, showing towns, roads, and historical lava flows. Attention, this map is large (240 k), but it shows a lot of detail!!!

Written a summary of the A.D. 472 eruption of Vesuvio.

Reorganized the Etna Decade Volcano pages.
Links have been made to a Bandai volcano (Japan) page of the Geographical Survey Institute, Japan, to the new Volcano Hotlist by M.L. Scott and to Encyclopedia Britannica where you can check for volcanoes and a general chapter on volcanology.
