Information on Speaker Presentation
Preparation
Structure of the class:
The focus of the weekly meetings is to promote discussion from class
participants. Class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 pm
EST. Students will review the powerpoints each week prior to class
and meet on Tuesday to discuss the presentation and prepare
questions. On Thursdays, all participants from all universities meet
online for about 90 minutes to engage in a discussion with the guest
speaker on their research topic: The Thursday discussion could
involve some preliminary comments but should be driven mainly by
questions from the students and answers from the speaker.

PowerPoint presentation guidelines and preparatory material:
The powerpoint and/or the readings are meant to focus the questions,
which will be sharpened in the Tuesday discussions without the
speaker
Speakers should prepare a powerpoint presentation of 30-50 minutes
duration, to be provided one week in advance of the discussion.
Notes on the powerpoints are useful for the students, if they are
available, to make the presentations clearer.
When you have completed your powerpoint, please send it to Adam
Durant: ajdurant@mtu.edu
Please also recommend one or two readings which should be provided
in advance for students to read. If you provide more readings that
is useful and helpful, but we will ask the students to review only
one or two -- so indicate which are your first choice.
