The crater area of the dome was covered by cloud early this morning preventing visual observations of the dome.
The hybrid seismic activity which started yesterday intensified overnight. The event rate increased to about two per minute by 11 pm last night. The size of the events also increased noticeably. Since then, the event rate and size have both decreased slightly. The seismic system also recorded some large rockfalls from the dome, the largest recorded at 0340.
There are real dangers of pyroclastic flows into the Tar River Valley and of a sudden collapse of the Gallway's Wall. The revised risk map is still in operation and nobody should be in zone A/B. Access to zone C/D is restricted to short visits for essential purposes by people with a rapid means of exit. Zone E is safe and the airport should be open.
