Two (2) volcano-tectonic earthquakes were located overnight, one in the Windy Hill area and one just offshore to the east of Montserrat. Four (4) long-period events occurred which were recorded at most seismic stations, one at 00:57 this morning being especially large. Broadband tremor continued intermittently and at variable amplitude but was still only recorded on the Gages seismic station. A regional event was recorded at 18:09 yesterday evening; its size and location are not yet known precisely, but it was more than 500 km from Montserrat and had a magnitude of more than 4. Two further regional earthquakes occurred at 03:52 and 03:53 this morning.
Steam venting from the crater area continues at a relatively high rate. Visual observations made from the helicopter at dusk last night confirmed that few obvious changes took place in the crater yesterday.
