Seismic activity has been dominated through the night by large long period events recorded on all stations. Fourteen (14) events have been recordedwith durations of 30 seconds or more. Small long period events have continued to be recorded by the Gages seismometer. Their size and frequency has been variable through the night and are now occurring at a rate of 2-4 per minute. A number of highly emergent hybrid type events (a combination of volcano-tectonic and long period seismicity) have also been recorded. The overall seismic picture is considered to be one of continued slow dome growth with intermittent steam explosions and rock avalanching. At daybreak a large steam plume could be seen rising from the crater area.
