Daily Report
Report for the period 16:00 on 30 October
to 16:00 on 31 October 1995

Twenty-three (23) located earthquakes were recorded by the seismograph network at the Soufriere Hills Volcano Observatory during the past twenty-four hours. The events were located mainly in the southern part of Montserrat including clusters in the Tar River-Long Ground area and west of Windy Hill. The events were mainly volcano-tectonic with focal depths in the range 0-6km. There were four long period events and several episodes of broadband tremor.

One eruption signal was recorded at 11:18 today. There were no observed or reported ashfalls associated with this event.

EDM measurements were made at the Tar River site. The measurements obtained continue to show a slight shortening in the line, possibly associated with the continued slow rate of dome growth.

Visual observations were made from the crater rim early today. There has been a significant increase in the size of the July 18th vent. This may have been associated with the large eruption event which occurred yesterday. The physical appearance of the dome remains essentially the same. During the period of observation, steam emission from the crater area was low.
