Five (5) earthquakes were located during the period under review. The events were scattered beneath the southern parts of Montserrat. These were generally of a shallow depth (1-5km) and were all volcano-tectonic events.
There were two gas venting episodes last night, one occurred at 10:00 and the other at 11:45. The first was followed by a series of small volcano-tectonic events. There were also two episodes of broadband tremor possibly related to increased steam venting.
Electronic Distance Meter measurements were made at the all the EDM sites today. The results do not show any significant changes from previous occupations.
Visual observations of English Crater from the Tar River area revealed that the July 28th vent is once again emitting moderate amounts of steam, accompanied by a loud roaring sound. The October 11th vent continues to emit small amounts of steam and the October 14th vent has completely stopped its steam emissions. Despite an attempt by a field team which left for Chances Peak very early this morning, low level cloud and fog prevented any visual observations of the July 18th vent and the area of the dome.
