Daily Report
Report for the period 16:00 on 08 October
to 16:00 on 09 October 1995

There were 24 located earthquakes during the period under review. These were mostly clustered beneath the Soufriere Hills volcano generally of a shallow depth (1-5km). The events were mainly volcano-tectonic.

There were also a few scattered earthquakes located in the Centre Hills area which occurred within the same depth range.

There was one small eruption which occurred at 13:56 this afternoon. This eruption generated light ashfall in Amersham and Upper Gages. There were several episodes of broad band tremor which may be due to an increase in steam emission. Emission of steam from the July 28th vent, reported in our last update continues.

Electronic tiltmeter observations continue to show no genuine deformation events.

All EDM stations were re-occupied today. No significant changes were noted in the measurements made today, when compared to those made during our previous occupation of these stations.

Thick low level cloud and fog once again prevented visual examination of English Crater from being done.
