The volcano has been more active over the last 24 hours. A dome collapse event at 06:52 this morning produced a large ash cloud that rose rapidly to about 20,000 feet. Ash was deposited to the west and north-west of the volcano where up to 2 mm thickness was recorded in Salem. In addition 21 rockfall signals and 3 hybrid earthquakes recorded by the MVO seismographs.
A helicopter flight early this morning revealed that the pyroclastic flows had reached the sea on the Tar River delta. No other new deposits were observed in the other ghauts around the volcano. Temperatures of these deposits on the Tar River delta were measured later in the morning, and gave a maximum of over 300 degrees centigrade at only 15 cm depth.
Residents of Montserrat are advised to keep listening to ZJB Radio Montserrat for information relating to any further developments in the state of the volcano.
