Daily Report
Report for the period 6pm 19 April
to 6pm 20 April 1998

The level of volcanic activity over the past 24 hours has remained low.

Between 4pm yesterday and 4pm today there were 14 volcano-tectonic earthquakes and 3 rockfalls. Most of the earthquakes were small but those that could be located were found to have occurred at depths of about 3.3km beneath the summit of the dome. In other words, they were not shallow events.

Preparations for the installation of a GPS site in the South Soufriere Hills were begun today and site preparation continued at Hermitage for the installation of a gravimeter.

Dust levels at all monitoring stations were low today.

Residents are reminded to keep listening to Radio Montserrat for any further information.
