Processing of the latest dome volume survey has revealed that the current volume is 112.86 million cubic metres. This gives an average extrusion rate for the period from Boxing Day to 10th March, of 587,286 cubic metres per day, or 6.8 cubic metres per second. Since then, the low levels of seismicity and other visual observations suggest that the growth rate has slowed. The volume of the dome on the 8th Dec 1997 was 106 million cubic metres. This means that the current volume is the highest yet recorded during this eruption.
Dust levels also remained low at all the monitoring stations.
