Daily Report
Report for the period 6 pm 28 November
to 6 pm 29 November 1997

Today volcanic activity is at a lower level to that of yesterday. Seismicity was again dominated by rockfall signals with a few small hybrid earthquakes. Visibility was poor and no clear observations were made of the dome.

Between 16:00 yesterday and 16:00 today there were 5 long-period earthquakes, 12 hybrid earthquakes, and 67 rockfall signals. Two of rockfall events appeared to have been triggered by long-period events. One regional event was recorded on the local network yesterday which was located on the Peru-Bolivia border. The event measured 6.3 on the Ritcher scale.

Recent pyroclastic flows show that the dome is still growing. Further flows could occur down any of the ghauts around the volcano with little warning. The level of ash in the atmosphere in Woodlands, St Peter's and in St John's, as averaged over the last 24 hours, has remained low.
