Activity at the Soufriere Hills Volcano has continued on similar lines to recent days. There have been over 100 rockfall signals and some small pyroclastic flows. In addition there have been long period earthquakes.

The rockfalls increased overnight and it is clear that they are going down both the Tar River Valley and the White River Valley. For this reason no one should visit any of these areas.

For the first time in some weeks there were some volcano- tectonic earthquakes recorded yesterday (Friday). There was a brief period of visibility yesterday and it was noticed that there are now some fumeroles (sulphur vents) on the northeast face of the dome. However there are no major changes to the dome.

Scientists at the MVO think that the recent increased activity might show an increase in the rate of growth of the dome.
