AGE OF THE VOLCANISM
Tacaná volcano was formed within Pleistocene times (Mooser et al., 1958). There is no record of magmatic eruptive activity in historic time. It does exhibit bursts of fumarolic activity, spaced one quarter to half a century apart, accompanied by small phreatic eruptions, and preceded by a considerable increase in seismic activity. (Mercado and Rose, 1992).
