Preliminary results show SO2 column amounts no higher than background and a slight column ozone increase in the same region as the GMS-observed ash plume. The ozone increase is most likely due to the presence of SO2, but the actual SO2 mass in the plume is low and difficult to quantify precisely (<50,000 tonnes). Ian E. Sprod Hughes STX, Corp.
