A disclaimer of sorts...
The observations and hypotheses included in this document, "Ice Volcanoes
of Lake Superior's South Shore: Preliminary Observations and Hypotheses", are
based on a several years of watching and playing on the ice volcanoes in the
Keweenaw Peninsula. "Ice volcanoes" is a colloquial term used to describe the
cones of that form along the south shore of Lake Superior. We have likened the
processes of cone formation and "eruptive" activity to classical volcanology to
help describe the phenomenon.
We hope that the pictures and descriptions found with in these pages afford
some basic information and enjoyment. For those who get a chance to play
in/on/around ice volcanoes, dress warm (and waterproof!) and exercise care
while walking on the ice.
