Open porosity (white) = 4.1%. We can see open porosity immediately from the image analysis segmenting routine. The edges of the open pore charge up ("edge effect") and become very white on a secondary electron image. We can look exclusively at the very white pixels to get an estimate of open porosity.

Hydrocarbon porosity appear very black on the same image, so we can tell HC-filled porosity as well. (Try to correlate this to calculated water and oil saturation. )
