Ph.D. Fellowships in Computational
Geological Sciences and Engineering.
The Department of
Geological Engineering and Sciences at Michigan Technological
University has been funded by the Department of Education to
establish a GAANN (Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need)
Fellowship Program in the area of computational geological sciences
and engineering (CGSE). Our department has strong research programs
in the CGSE area, with high levels of external research funding and
accomplishments, and world class computing facilities.
We are looking to recruit 5-10 superior quality doctoral students from diverse backgrounds into the CGSE Fellowship Program, which begins in Fall 2000. The doctoral research topics are highly flexible with the potential for campus-wide as well as multi-university collaborations, and students will be encouraged to develop their own research projects with faculty guidance. Current departmental research strengths include contaminant hydrogeology and remediation, limnologic remote sensing, petroleum geology and geophysics, sedimentary basin analysis, and volcanic/atmospheric remote sensing.
This prestigious and highly competitive Fellowship provides full Ph.D. tuition and fee support for up to five years, a competitive stipend, and other educational costs such as travel. In order to be eligible for this Fellowship program, applicants must be U.S. citizens.
