Silver Rock

Wished I was a rock, sittin' on the hill.

Doing nothing all day long, just sitting still.

I wouldn't eat, I wouldn't sleep, I wouldn't even wash.

Just sit still a thousand years, rest myself by gosh.

Time passes slowly up here in the daylight

We stare straight ahead and try so hard to stay right

Like the red rose of summer that blooms in the day

Time passes slowly and fades away.

—Bob Dylan

How does it feel, how does it feel?

To be on your own.

With no direction home,

like a complete unknown--

Like a rolling stone?

—Bob Dylan

The island would not be here if those 9 lava flows hadn’t flowed this way. And the low albedo blesses us--you can feel it on your bare back--lie down on the rock and toast.  The black color warms well in the sun and feels like geothermal heat from the Proterozoic.

All basalt, and warm!
