Sturgeon River Falls
Sturgeon River Falls
This is an important location because two formations are in contact. Red Jacobsville Formation overlies black basalts from the Siemens Creek Formation. At the contact is a paleosol which can be studied to illuminate environmental conditions at an ancient time (Mitchell & Sheldon, 2010) . The conditions suggest that CO2 levels in the atmosphere were higher than presnet, but much less that older Proterozoic rocks from elsewhere. They help us understand how Earth’s atmosphere evolved with time.
