Above the C&H Conglomerate layer that dips to the NW and is largely stoped and open is the Red Jacket area which marks the core of Calumet’s downtown district. It is now a combination of partly and completely restored buildings, empty spaces where fires have occurred and destroyed former buildings, and buildings that are suffering from neglect. Overall there is a positive aspect of revival by artists, businesspeople and tourist related activities. The buildings preserve the historic character of copper boom, overprinted with its slow decline.
