The Volcanic Clouds Web Site describes the formation and composition of volcanic ash, gas and aerosol clouds, the remote sensing methods we use to study them, and ways that this information can be used for science and hazard mitigation. Support for this site comes from the National Science Foundation and NASA grants and from Michigan Technological University. The opinions expressed here aren't those of NSF, NASA or Michigan Tech.

Who is it for?

The Volcanic Clouds Web Site is designed to be of use to a variety of people, including ourselves (researchers), the volcano community (particularly those interested in volcano/atmosphere science), and those in the business of mitigating air hazards such as the Federal Aviation Administration, Volcanic Ash Advisory Centers, and Volcano Observatories around the world. The Volcanic Clouds Web Site can also be of use to those who are interested in learning about volcanic clouds and remote sensing. 

How do you use the Volcanic Clouds Web Site?

The Volcanic Clouds Web Site lets you progressively build upon knowledge about clouds and remote sensing techniques, but also lets you skip from link to link as needed.
