Freda Sandstone looks dirtier than the Jacobsville, because it contains less quartz and is more poorly sorted and rounded. The contact between the Freda and the Jacobsville is not well exposed or understood, and the Jacobsville may be considerably younger.
Part of the Oronto Group, the Freda Sandstone is found along the North Shore of the Keweenaw, mainly west of Calumet Waterworks. It forms cliff exposures at many places.
