The Keweenaw and Isle Royale flows show columnar jointing in many places, although the form of joints is not always as regular as many other examples. On Isle Royale, perhaps because there is so much shoreline with lava outcrops being wave washed, is a much better place to observe columns, so the photo examples here are from there. On the Keweenaw, the most dramatic big columns are in the Greenstone Flow, along Cliff Drive between Seneca Lake and Phoenix.
Large columns seen looking S over Passage Island. These are part of the lower ophite of the Greenstone Flow. Passage Island Light is seen at right in the photo.
